SUMMARY:Empowering Caregivers: Exercise for Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:She wakes before her children to prepare breakfast. She walks her youngest to school\, then rushes to care for an ageing parent. She squeezes in piecework sewing between pickups. By the time the house is quiet\, her shoulders ache\, her back is stiff\, and there is no energy left for herself. Looking After the People Who Look After EveryoneFrom July 2025 to April 2026\, Peak II Foundation and Les Beatitudes Foundation are running “Exercise for Wellbeing” — a sustained health programme at two locations: the SoCO centre in Sham Shui Po and Chuk Tok School in Wong Tai Sin. Over 12 sessions and 48 classes\, 12–15 caregivers per class are learning simple\, practical exercises they can do at home to relieve stress\, ease chronic muscle tension\, and reclaim something that caregiving quietly takes away: time for themselves. This is not a luxury. Caregivers who carry chronic stress without relief are at significantly higher risk of depression and anxiety — conditions that don’t just affect their own health\, but reduce the quality of care they provide to the people who depend on them. When a caregiver breaks down\, the whole family feels it. Investing in caregivers’ physical and mental wellbeing is not separate from our mission. It is central to it. Why This Programme Matters to Peak IIAt Peak II Foundation\, we talk about the multiplier effect — the idea that when you empower one person\, the impact travels outward to everyone they touch. But a multiplier only works if the person at the centre is strong enough to keep going. The mothers in this programme are the very same women we fund to serve their communities. They lead workshops. They are the hands through which our donations become real\, human acts of care. If we invest in their skills but ignore their health\, we are building on a foundation that cannot hold. This exercise programme is our way of saying: you matter too. Not just as volunteers. Not just as caregivers. As people who deserve their own “me time” — an hour where no one needs anything from them\, where the only person they have to take care of is themselves. What the Classes Look LikeLed by trainer Ms. Anna\, each session teaches caregivers practical\, low-impact exercises designed for home use — no gym membership\, no special equipment needed. The focus is on movements that relieve the specific physical toll of caregiving: tight shoulders from carrying children\, lower back strain from bending over elderly relatives\, tension headaches from sustained stress. But the classes deliver something beyond physical relief. For many of these women\, the weekly session has become the one hour in their week that belongs entirely to them. It is a space where they are surrounded by other mothers who understand their lives\, where laughter is as common as stretching\, and where the simple act of being looked after — instead of looking after others — can feel quietly transformative. A Programme\, Not a MomentWhat makes this initiative different from a one-off wellness event is its duration. Forty-eight classes over ten months means these caregivers build real habits\, real relationships\, and real resilience. It means Ms. Anna knows each participant’s name\, their physical challenges\, and their progress. It means the women in each class become a support network for one another — not just in exercise\, but in life. This is the kind of sustained investment Peak II Foundation believes in. Not a single gesture\, but a long commitment. Not charity\, but empowerment that compounds over time. About Our PartnersLes Beatitudes Foundation empowers grassroots women through creative arts\, crafts\, and community service. The caregivers in this exercise programme are the same mothers trained through the Foundation’s sewing and skills programmes — women who serve others all year round and deserve investment in their own wellbeing. Society for Community Organization (SoCO) provides the community space in Sham Shui Po where the programme takes place\, and connects the Foundation with the grassroots families it serves. SoCO’s deep roots in these neighbourhoods ensure the programme reaches the women who need it most. Programme at a Glance 🏋️‍♀️ 12 sessions\, 48 classes over 10 months 📍 Two locations: SoCO Sham Shui Po & Chuk Tok School\, Wong Tai Sin 👩 12–15 caregivers per class 💪 Practical home exercises for stress relief and physical wellbeing 💛 Giving caregivers the one thing they rarely give themselves: time A heartfelt thank you to our trainer\, Ms. Anna\, for her dedication\, patience\, and care. You are helping build not just healthier bodies\, but a more resilient community — one class at a time. Peak II Foundation is committed to empowering the whole person — not just their skills\, but their health\, their confidence\, and their sense of self-worth. Because the people who care for others deserve someone who cares for them.
