SUMMARY:Before the Moon Was Full
DESCRIPTION:A Mid-Autumn workshop with Les Beatitudes at the Ronald McDonald House (Kwun Tong) Date: 9 September 2026 Location: Ronald McDonald House\, Kwun Tong\, Hong Kong Before entering the Ronald McDonald House\, every volunteer does the same thing first: puts on a face mask. Not for our own sake — for the children inside. They are in treatment\, and their bodies defend against infection far less well than ours. The rule of this house is simple: cover your own face before you come through the door. We understood later that this single gesture is already where care begins. The Ronald McDonald House is a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children\, so that a child undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital can still live together with their family. The Kwun Tong house opened at the end of 2023\, with sixty-six family rooms. The charity behind it believes one thing: on the road of treatment\, the companionship of family matters no less than medicine. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Before it beganAt noon\, the activity room held no children yet. The volunteer mothers of Les Beatitudes Foundation had already arrived — kneading the snow-skin dough\, portioning the fillings\, hanging up the Mid-Autumn decorations one by one. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n No two mooncakes alikeAt one o’clock\, the workshop began. Smocks on\, gloves on\, the children chose their own mould patterns and mixed their own colours. Dough rolled round\, dropped into the press mould\, one firm push down and one gentle push out — and the trays slowly filled. No two mooncakes were the same\, just as no two children are. One moment that day stays with us most. A few registered families could not make it back from hospital check-ups in time. The parents who were there saw it\, and made mooncakes for them\, one by one\, set aside for absent neighbours. This is how people on the same road begin to care for each other — the absent families still tasted fresh mooncakes. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A place for happy photographsThe volunteer mothers had also designed a decorated corner: paper cutouts of red goldfish and white rabbits\, carved wooden lanterns\, a platter of pastel mooncakes — switch on the light\, and it became a small Mid-Autumn of its own. It was a photo corner. For the families here\, that phrase is not a light one — what a phone holds most of\, in this house\, is often photographs of hospitals. This corner exists so that every family fighting illness can\, before the festival\, keep one photograph of themselves smiling. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The ones who returnThis was not our first time stepping into this house\, and we trust it will not be the last. The festival has not arrived\, but the mooncakes are ready. Leaving the house\, we thought: this must be what “a home away from home” means. Reunion does not have to wait for the festival itself. On any given afternoon\, it can be practised first. A note on images: this piece uses an illustration and photographs of the decorations in place of any image of the children.

SUMMARY:A Fall Is Not an Accident
Smocks on\, gloves on\, the children chose their own mould patterns and mixed their own colours. One moment that day stays with us most. A few registered families could not make it back from hospital check-ups in time. SUMMARY:Season of Hope: Nurturing Healing Through Music
SUMMARY:Moonlit Moments: Cherishing Bonds This Mid-Autumn 2025
SUMMARY:The Fred Hollows Humanity Award 2025
On any given afternoon\, it can be practised first. A note on images: this piece uses an illustration and photographs of the decorations in place of any image of the children.
