Season of Hope: Nurturing Healing Through Music

Using the universal language of melodies to uplift our spirits & foster a sense of community

Less than a month earlier, on 26 November, a fire tore through Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po — the deadliest blaze Hong Kong had seen in nearly 80 years. In its aftermath, around 100 families were relocated to Trackside Villas, a temporary housing site nearby. They arrived with almost nothing. Many lost not just their belongings, but neighbours and friends.

On Christmas Day, music came to find them.

A Concert for People Who Had Lost Almost Everything

Organised by the Society for Community Organization (SoCO) and Les Beatitudes Foundation, the “Season of Hope” outdoor concert was not a grand performance. There was no stage lighting or ticketed seating. There was an open space, a small group of musicians, and a community still carrying the weight of tragedy.

The Bellaholics and handpan musician Sasha — both of whom had first performed for these residents at an earlier gathering on 10 December — returned on Christmas Day because they wanted to. Their music was unhurried, gentle, and offered without expectation. It didn’t try to fix anything. It simply filled the space with something other than grief.

For residents who had spent the past month navigating insurance claims, temporary housing, and the shock of sudden loss, the concert offered something rare: permission to pause. To sit in the open air, listen to a melody, and feel — even for an hour — that they had not been forgotten.

100 Gift Packages, 50 Children’s Gifts

Peak II Foundation sponsored 100 gift packages for the displaced families, along with 50 special gifts for children. On a day when most Hong Kong families were unwrapping presents at home, these children opened theirs in temporary housing. The gifts were small. But for a child whose world had been upended a month ago, receiving something wrapped just for them — on Christmas morning — carried a meaning no price tag could capture.

The Beginning of a Longer Commitment

This Christmas concert was the first chapter of Peak II Foundation’s ongoing support for the Wang Fuk Court fire community. Music cannot rebuild a home. A gift package cannot undo a tragedy. But showing up — consistently, with warmth, with real resources — tells a community something it desperately needs to hear: you are not alone, and we are not going away.

Many Hands, One Purpose

Familiar faces from multiple organisations gathered again on this day — the same community of partners who had come together on 10 December and who would return again in 25 December. This was not a one-off event. It was part of a growing web of support, woven by people who understand that recovery from disaster is not a single moment but a long journey — one that requires sustained presence, not just seasonal generosity.
