The aroma of freshly made egg waffles has a way of pulling people together. On 13 March 2026 Friday afternoon, at the SAGE Madam Ho Sin Hang Home for the Elderly in Cyberport, that simple scent became the backdrop for something far sweeter — an afternoon of laughter, storytelling, and connection across generations.
Organised by the Peak II Foundation and Les Beatitudes Foundation, the workshop brought 10 volunteers alongside 20 elderly residents to cook, create, and simply be together. But this wasn’t just an activity. It was a living example of our “people affect people” philosophy at work.
When Empowered Mothers Meet Wise Elders
Among the volunteers were mothers from Les Beatitudes Foundation — women from grassroots communities in Wong Tai Sin and Sham Shui Po who have been trained in creative arts, craftsmanship, and community service through the Foundation’s programmes. Not long ago, many of these women were themselves in need of support. Today, they stood in the kitchen of an elderly home, gently guiding a 90-year-old’s hand as she poured batter into an egg waffle mould, sharing laughter over the imperfectly shaped results.
This is the multiplier effect that Peak II Foundation believes in: when you invest in a person, she doesn’t just rise — she reaches out. The mothers who once received help have become the ones giving it. The elderly who might otherwise spend their afternoons in silence found themselves surrounded by warmth and conversation.
A 106-Year-Old Reminder
The most unforgettable moment of the day came from a 106-year-old gentleman who greeted our team with a smile so bright it filled the room. His energy defied every expectation. He didn’t just participate — he radiated a quiet joy that reminded everyone present of something important:
A life well-lived is not measured by years. It is measured by the warmth you carry and the connections you build.
For our volunteers, meeting him was not an act of giving — it was a gift received.
Why This Matters
It would be easy to describe this as “a cooking workshop for the elderly.” But look closer:
A mother who came to Hong Kong with no community now has the skills and confidence to serve others. An elderly resident who rarely has visitors spent an afternoon laughing with someone who genuinely cared. A young volunteer discovered that wisdom doesn’t come from textbooks — it comes from a 106-year-old man who still greets every day with a smile.
Each person in that room was changed by the others. No one was simply a “giver” or a “receiver.” Everyone was both. That is the kind of community Peak II Foundation exists to build — one where empowerment flows in every direction, and where a simple egg waffle can become a bridge between generations, backgrounds, and life experiences.
About the Partnership
Peak II Foundation is committed to empowering individuals of all ages — from children to caregivers to the elderly — through education, skills development, and meaningful community engagement. We believe the most powerful form of giving creates a ripple: one person helped becomes one person helping.
Les Beatitudes Foundation empowers grassroots women through creative arts, crafts, and community service, transforming them from recipients of support into active contributors to Hong Kong’s social fabric.
SAGE (耆智園) provides quality elderly care and dementia support services, creating environments where seniors live with dignity, connection, and joy.

The Peak II Foundation will continue building bridges between generations — creating spaces where volunteers learn from the elderly, where empowered mothers give back to the community, and where every shared moment becomes a step toward a more compassionate Hong Kong.
