Before there was a foundation, before there was a mission statement, before the first bedding set was stitched or the first workshop held — there was a university classroom in Shanghai where a young man from Hong Kong began to understand what education could do.
In 2025, as Fudan University celebrated its 120th anniversary, Peak II Foundation Founder Terry Hu made a personal donation to the Shanghai Fudan University Education Development Foundation and the Fudan Yuan fundraising project — giving back to the institution that helped shape who he is and, in turn, what Peak II Foundation would become.
Why Fudan, Why Now
Founded in 1905, Fudan University is one of China’s most respected research universities. Its 120th anniversary — marked by a ceremony attended by nearly 4,500 alumni and a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping — was a moment for its global alumni community to reflect on what the university has meant to them and what they owe to its future.
For Terry, that reflection was personal. The analytical rigour, the global perspective, the belief that individuals have a responsibility to contribute beyond themselves — these are things he carries from his years at Fudan into everything he does today, including the founding of Peak II.
His donation supports the Fudan Yuan project, a landmark new complex opening as part of the anniversary celebrations. Fudan Yuan will house five interconnected spaces — a history museum, a general museum, an art museum, a science and technology achievement museum, and an alumni hall — creating a hub where knowledge, culture, and community meet. It is designed not just to preserve Fudan’s legacy, but to inspire the next generation of students to think broadly, act boldly, and give back.
A Personal Act, A Shared Belief
This donation is Terry’s personal contribution, separate from Peak II Foundation’s charitable programmes. But the values behind it are inseparable from the foundation’s mission.
Peak II Foundation exists because Terry believes education transforms lives — not just through classrooms, but through the confidence, perspective, and sense of possibility that learning creates. That belief runs through every programme the foundation supports: sewing skills training for mothers in Sham Shui Po, Dream Centres for children in rural China through the Adream Foundation, the Fred Hollows Humanity Award that encourages primary school students to turn empathy into action, and Teach For China’s fellowship programme that places young graduates in underserved rural schools.
Each of these commintments traces back to a single conviction: education is the most reliable engine of upward mobility and the most powerful multiplier of human potential. Terry’s gift to Fudan is where that conviction began.
About Fudan University
Fudan University (復旦大學) was founded in 1905 in Shanghai and has grown into one of China’s leading comprehensive research universities. In 2025, the university celebrated its 120th anniversary, marking the occasion with the opening of the Fudan Yuan complex — a new landmark designed to serve as a centre for education, culture, and alumni connection. The Fudan Yuan’s “One Source, Five Halls” framework encompasses history, general knowledge, art, science and technology, and alumni engagement, reflecting the university’s commitment to holistic education and its enduring spirit of intellectual curiosity.
Education gave Terry Hu the foundation to build a career — and the conviction to build a foundation for others. His personal donation to Fudan University is both a thank you to the place where it started and an investment in the students who will carry that legacy forward.
At Peak II Foundation, we believe that “Empower Education, Elevate The Future” is not just a motto — it is a promise. And it begins with the belief that every classroom, every teacher, and every opportunity to learn has the power to change the trajectory of a life.
