Building Tomorrow: The Teach For China 2025 Hong Kong Gala

Supporting Education, Spreading Love

In a rural classroom somewhere in China, a young teacher — barely out of university — stands in front of thirty children who have never met anyone from outside their province. That teacher chose to be there. Not for the salary. Not for the career track. But because they believe that the postcode a child is born into should not determine the future they are allowed to imagine.

That belief is what Teach For China is built on. And it is why Peak II Foundation’s Founder, Terry Hu, was among the guests at the Teach For China 2025 Hong Kong Gala on 27 April.

A Gala With Purpose

The annual Hong Kong Gala brings together supporters and advocates to raise funds for Teach For China’s Teaching Project — a programme that recruits mission-driven young graduates and places them in under-resourced rural schools for two-year fellowships. These fellows don’t just fill vacancies. They bring new teaching methods, fresh energy, and the kind of mentorship that shows children what is possible beyond the village they know.

Since its founding, Teach For China has placed thousands of fellows in some of the country’s most underserved communities — not just delivering lessons, but nurturing a generation of young leaders who carry a sense of social responsibility long after their fellowship ends. It is a model that multiplies: each fellow influences dozens of students, and each student who dares to dream bigger changes the trajectory of their family.

That multiplier logic is exactly what draws Peak II Foundation to partnerships like this one.

Terry’s Contribution

At the gala’s charity auction, Mr. Hu donated a piece of artwork by the contemporary artist Mr. Doodle and actively participated in the bidding — a gesture that reflects not just financial generosity, but a personal conviction that education is the highest-return investment any society can make.

For Terry, supporting Teach For China is an extension of the same philosophy that guides Peak II Foundation’s work in Hong Kong: whether it is a sewing mother in Sham Shui Po gaining skills to serve her community, an elderly resident rediscovering joy through a workshop, or a child in rural Yunnan meeting a teacher who changes her sense of what is possible — the principle is the same. Invest in one person, and you invest in everyone they will go on to reach.

Why This Partnership Matters to Peak II

Peak II Foundation’s mission centres on empowering individuals — particularly children and families — through education, skills development, and community connection. Teach For China operates on the same conviction, but at a different scale and in a different context: placing young idealists in classrooms where they are needed most, and trusting that two years of dedicated teaching can shift the arc of an entire community.

What connects our Hong Kong programmes with Teach For China’s rural classrooms is the shared belief that education is not a privilege to be rationed — it is a right to be defended, and that the people closest to the problem are often best placed to solve it, if given the right support.

About Our Partner

Teach For China (美麗中國) recruits outstanding young graduates and places them as two-year teaching fellows in under-resourced rural schools across China. The programme addresses educational inequality at its root — by bringing talented, committed teachers to the communities that need them most, while cultivating a pipeline of socially conscious young leaders who continue to drive change long after their fellowships end.

Peak II Foundation is proud to support organisations that share our belief in the transformative power of education. Our involvement with Teach For China reflects a commitment that extends beyond Hong Kong — because every child, no matter where they are born, deserves a teacher who believes in their potential.
