Professor Fred Hollows spent his life restoring sight to some of the world’s poorest people. But he understood something that went beyond medicine: that the most lasting change happens when you don’t just help someone — you help them help themselves.
That principle is what connects The Fred Hollows Foundation to the Peak II Foundation. And it is why, on 14 June 2025, we were honoured to be part of one of the most inspiring gatherings of the year.
400 Young Changemakers, 42 Honoured
The Fred Hollows Humanity Award — now in its eighth year and coinciding with the 10th anniversary of The Fred Hollows Foundation in Hong Kong — recognises primary school students who turn empathy into action. This year, more than 400 entries were received from students across 74 local and international schools, each one demonstrating that kindness is not an abstract idea but something children as young as eight can put into practice every day.
Forty-two students were honoured at the ceremony at The Mills in Tsuen Wan, with awards presented by Mr Gareth Williams, Australian Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau. Their projects ranged from organising inclusive cultural activities for ethnic minority classmates, to volunteering at animal shelters, to creating eye health awareness campaigns in their schools — each one a reminder that you don’t need to be an adult to make a meaningful difference.
A Proud Moment for Peak II
As a sponsor of the Humanity Award 2025, Peak II Foundation was privileged to have our Executive Manager, Ms. Elva Leung, represent all sponsors and partners on stage to deliver a speech. Elva shared the spirit of mutual assistance that Professor Fred Hollows championed throughout his life — a spirit that sits at the heart of Peak II’s own work.
Being chosen to speak on behalf of the entire sponsor community was a meaningful recognition of Peak II Foundation’s commitment to this partnership and to the values the Award represents. For a young foundation like ours, it affirmed that our voice — and our philosophy of “people affect people” — resonates with organisations that have been doing this work for decades.
Why This Award Matters to Us
At Peak II Foundation, we talk often about the multiplier effect: the idea that when you empower one person, they go on to empower others. The Fred Hollows Humanity Award is that principle in action — but starting with children.
A Primary 4 student who learns to see the needs of her community today becomes the volunteer, the social worker, the philanthropist of tomorrow. The Award doesn’t just recognise good deeds — it plants the seed of a lifelong habit of looking outward and asking: who around me needs help, and what can I do?
That question is exactly the one Peak II Foundation was built to answer. Whether we are funding sewing skills for mothers in Sham Shui Po, or supporting an award that encourages children to turn compassion into action — the thread is the same. We invest in people who invest in others.
About Our Partner
The Fred Hollows Foundation Hong Kong (護瞳行動) is an international humanitarian organisation dedicated to ending avoidable blindness. In Hong Kong, the Foundation marks its 10th anniversary in 2025, and its flagship Humanity Award programme has engaged over 4,500 students since its launch — encouraging young people to carry forward Professor Hollows’ belief that the basic attribute of humankind is to look after each other.
Peak II Foundation is proud to stand alongside The Fred Hollows Foundation in nurturing the next generation of compassionate, action-oriented young people. We believe that when children learn to see the world through the eyes of others, they don’t just change their community — they change the kind of adults they will become.
Congratulations to all 42 award recipients and every student who submitted an entry. Your kindness matters more than you know.
